F1 has just confirmed its 2027 calendar today. Twenty-four races and twenty-two countries. Bahrain is back as the season opener, and the biggest change is that we are getting ten sprint weekends instead of six.
The sprint weekends are up from six. They are in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Canada, Monaco, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Monaco has never had one: the circuit where overtaking is famously impossible now gets a second race on the same weekend.
For the first time since 2024 Bahrain will be back on the calendar as the season opener from March 12-14. And it's a sprint weekend. Saudi Arabia returns the following weekend from March 19-21. Pre-season testing is going back to a single four-day test at Sakhir from February 24-27.
There are two returns from further back: Portimão and Istanbul Park, both on the calendar for the first time since 2021. Portimão is from June 18-20 and Istanbul Park is from October 1-3. Turkey lands in a triple header with Baku and Singapore.
There are two departures from the calendar, but one is temporary. Unfortunately, Zandvoort has been dropped entirely which is sad and that track will be missed. Barcelona is temporarily leaving the calendar on a one-year sabbatical. It's rotating with Spa and will return in 2028.
Silverstone has been moved to July and it's now a sprint weekend. Austria has been shifted to after Silverstone, and the Grand Prix in Spain is in Madrid. The season will end in Abu Dhabi on December 12.
Zandvoort's gone, Barcelona's on break, and Monaco's getting a sprint race (that should be fun).
